And it always works for me when I leave a picture alone for a while and just draw other stuff when I'm stuck; when you look at one pic for too long your vision goes a little 'off'; you don't see mistakes as easily anymore. This pic took a grand total of three weeks to complete; but I only worked on it about an hour at the time: working on other pieces can give you a new insight in a previous pic.
I hope I helped you out a little; I don't feel like I should be giving anyone instructions; I'm still messing around myself.
